Challenges facing the "two-carbon" goal

From the national level, the time to achieve the "double carbon" goal is tight, China's carbon dioxide emissions strive to peak before 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, which is earlier than the goal of global carbon neutrality from 2065 to 2070 under the temperature control goal proposed by the Paris Agreement. China's carbon peak time is only about 60 years, from carbon peak to carbon neutral only 30 years, whether it is carbon peak or carbon neutral, the time is very urgent.

From the enterprise level, there are many technical problems. First,environmental protection equipment the reserve of key carbon reduction technologies is insufficient. The research shows that in order to ensure China's carbon neutrality by 2060, it is necessary to achieve the peak of carbon dioxide emissions from energy activities before 2030 and control the peak level within 10.5 billion tons, the carbon dioxide emissions from energy activities in 2060 are controlled within 500 million tons, and the emissions of non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases and industrial processes are controlled at about 1 billion tons. Technologies such as carbon sequestration and carbon removal achieve negative emissions of around 1.5 billion tonnes. However, at present, advanced energy saving and carbon reduction technologies can not meet the needs of achieving the "double carbon" goal. From 2025 to 2035, the substantial reduction of carbon emission intensity urgently requires the support of low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies, and the realization of deep carbon reduction after 2035, and the need for low-carbon, zero-carbon and negative carbon new technology reserves. In recent years, although modern coal chemical enterprises have made certain progress in photovoltaic, green electricity trading, carbon dioxide recycling and utilization, low-carbon technologies are not enough to support the realization of carbon neutrality, and it is necessary to carry out research and development of key low-carbon core technologies and promote their application.
